Mmmm! I’m grateful for yummy summer fruit!
[I usually work on writing my posts over a several days, so I have to say that I thought it was cool when this general theme came up several times at church yesterday. God’s good at doing neat things like that! 🙂 ]
By their fruits ye shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Fruit. You read about it quite a bit in the New Testament. It’s a term that covers a lot of ground: your motives, your love, your works. I might define fruit as the proof (or lack of proof) that you mean what you say you believe.
Jesus said a person is known by the fruit that they bear. The fruit you bear tell a lot about the vine you’re a part of. “Rotten” fruit comes from being a part of the wrong vine; Good fruit comes from being a part if the True Vine.
Good Fruit. There’s a passage in Galatians that spells out exactly what good fruit looks like. And when you think about it, it’s a pretty tall order…
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance… They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh.
Just remember that the fruit you bear is your testimony. What does your fruit tell others about? Does it do justice to the True Vine?
[And just in case you were wondering… your “fruit” should look a *whole* lot more like the berry on the left. 😉 ]
